Belonging to a choir - and singing itself - is said to be good for you and the community. Graham Welch, professor of music education at the Institute of Education in London, says: "The benefits of singing are multifarious. We know that singing has positive impacts on the brain, because different brain systems are involved in singing, involving lyrics, rhythm, pulse and pitch. And because it is an aerobic activity, it is very good for the cardiovascular system, which means we get increased oxygenation in the blood stream - we are more alert."

And he says that there is evidence that music could even pre-date language; that it is one of the things that characterises us as human.

Bromley Philharmonic Choir is always eager to welcome new singers. There is no audition, but all new members are on ‘probation’ for the first few weeks whilst we work out which part of the Choir would suit them best. A reasonable ability to sight-read music is an advantage, but not essential: some members have been unable to read music at all.

The Choir rehearses every Thursday at Christ Church URC, Tudor Way, Petts Wood,
BR5 1LH -  Click for a Map.
The rehearsals start at 7:45pm and finish in time for us to leave the Church by 9:45pm promptly.
See the Rehearsals Page for more information.
